Retirees, Unemployed Helping At Diakonia Food Pantry

Posted: Updated:

WEST OCEAN CITY, Md. - One local organization says its fastest growing program is their emergency food pantry.

Organizers at Diakonia say that the pantry, run by volunteers ranging from retirees to a person currently staying at a shelter, is part of their outreach program to serve those in need. They expect to contribute to the community in anyway they can.

"I know that it could so easily be me," said Misty Wade, a volunteer who is recently unemployed. "Anyone of us could have a need like this at any time because life is like that, so it's good to be able to give while I have the opportunity to do so."

Officials say they always need more food, especially during the winter months. If you're interested in donating, call 410-213-0923.
