Harry L. Carrico, Former Va. Chief Justice, Dies

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Former Virginia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harry L. Carrico has died. He was 96.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said in a statement that Carrico died Sunday morning. The governor ordered the state flag to be flown at half-staff at all local, state and federal buildings and grounds in Carrico's honor.

Carrico retired in 2003 after 42 years on the Supreme Court, the last 22 as chief justice. He continued to serve as a senior justice. His tenure as a justice was the longest in the court's history.
