Milford Church to Give Free Food and Clothing Every Friday

Posted: Updated:

MILFORD, Del. - A local church is offering free food, clothing and even haircuts to anyone in need every Saturday starting today.

The Multi-Cultural Church opened up to the residents at 9AM and people were able to grab any supplies that they needed to brave the harsh winter.

"We're actually affiliated with Calvary Methodist Church and they provided us with the food to give away. We have a thrift store as well where we have an overload of clothes, coats and so forth. Everything we do is free. so we have a church come in, they give out free hair cuts. We have my thrift store, we give out coats and whatever necessary to keep warm. And food as well. We supply abundance of food," says Pastor Richard Portalatin.

The residents of the community, for one, are taking advantage and are glad that there is help to the needy.

"I love it. It helps us out a lot you know. Because a lot of us don't get that much from welfare as it is," says Cecelia Alverio, a resident of Milford.

Portalatin isn't a stranger to struggling with poverty, which is the reason why he knows the importance of giving a helping hand.

"I, once upon a time, was homeless myself, my wife and I. And we have three children, three wonderful children, five grandchildren, and because I know what it feels like to be out there with nothing, fall on your face with anything, I know the feeling . . . Been through it all. Been through suffering everything else. I just want to help those in need."

If you would like to make a donation to the cause, you can contact Richard at 302-249-5738
