SMYRNA, Del. - Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion and assault in Smyrna that has left a 38 year old male with non-life threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows the incident happened Friday, January 25, 2013 around 11:40 p.m. The 38-year-old male resident was inside of his house located in the 1st block of Hedgerow Hollow Road, Smyrna when he heard someone knocking on his front door. The victim opened the door and was greeted by a male suspect who utilizing a ruse, stated that his vehicle had slid into the victim's car in front of the house causing damage. As the victim left the house to investigate the damage, he was confronted by a second suspect. Both suspects pulled out handguns and demanded money from the victim. He complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and a written prescription for medication to the suspects.
Both suspects then escorted the victim back into the residence and demanded more money. A physical confrontation between the victim and the suspects ensued with the victim being struck in the head with the handguns. The suspects then fled the residence on foot in an unknown direction.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives have determined that this was not a random act, and the victim was targeted in the home invasion.
