Interview Mistakes That Could Cost You The Job

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md - Thinking about landing a new job? According to studies, one in four people will be changing careers in the year 2013. But once an interview has been landed, that's where the real problem may lie.

There are many things a person can do to jeopardize their chances of landing their next job. Some of these include appearing disinterested and looking at one's cell phone during the middle of an interview. But that's just a few pet peeves of certain recruiters.

"I'd say one of the main things for us is being on time. Because when someone is late, it is an indication of what they may do on the job so our patients can't wait so we have to be on time and it's a big value for us so we want to make sure that our candidates that are going to be hired have that value," says Kennan Lubeley, a nurse recruiter for Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Studies show that 62% of job employers find that not making eye contact to be one of the biggest mistakes that a prospective employee can make. Kimberly McBride, another recruiter from PRMC, says that it's important to make the employer engage with the interviewee.

"I think the best thing is probably enthusiasm. And having high energy and really wanting the position. That's probably the best thing. Because sometimes you can train technical skills but you can't necessarily train someone's enthusiasm."
