FRUITLAND, Md. - Shirley Hobbs English, 82, of Fruitland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 with her family by her side. Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Hadley Francis Hobbs and Laura Ennis Hobbs. She worked at Delmarva Power and Light for 43 years, retiring in 1990. Shirley enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, playing the slots in Harrington, camping, fishing, shopping and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Calvin Woodrow English; a daughter, Sharon C. Lennon and her husband, John of Delaware City, DE; a son, James A. Cox of North Providence, RI; 5 grandchildren, Cynthia Fields and her husband, Roger, Jeffrey Carey and his wife, Joanna, Joseph Lennon and his wife, Colleen, Ryan Cox and Michelle Cox; 4 great grandchildren, Daniel Wohlgemuth, Frank Wohlgemuth, Joshua Carey and Heather Carey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry L. Cox and a brother, John F. Hobbs.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury with Rev. Gary Tulak officiating. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company, P.O.
