PARSONSBURG, Md. - Benjamin Franklin Rider, Jr. 70 of Parsonsburg made his transition on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 7:05 PM at Salisbury Center-Genesis Eldercare in the presence of his wife. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Rider Sr. and Catherine Polk Rider. Mr. Rider was an over the road truck driver with Perdue from 1972 to 2013. He was inducted in the Million Mile Club after being recognized for having a safe driving record over two million miles. He was a member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church under the leadership Bishop Henson F. Brooks and later attended Faith Christian Full Gospel Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Salisbury High School where he played football. He married Charlotte Johnson whom he was married to for 48 years.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, his children: Jerrald Rider of Denver, CO, Deborah Rider of Odenton, MD, Jackie Rider of Salisbury and Daryle Rider of Tacoma, WA; sister, Elsie Sheppard of Salisbury; 6 grandchildren, David Jones, Dwight Nash, Jordan Rider, Jeremy Rider, Jennie Caristo and Elizanna Rider and 2 great-grandchildren, Anthony and Holly Rider; an aunt, Pecola Stevens. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings: Catherine Rider, Constance Mitchell and Norman Rider.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, Maryland 21804. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Elders Clarence Polk, Robert Douglas and Timothy Waters will officiate. Interment will be in Green Acres Memorial Park in Salisbury.
