Markell To Speak To Mental Health Professionals

Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Gov. Jack Markell is gathering with other officials for the annual conference of the Delaware chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Markell planned to join Health and Social Services Secretary Rita Landgraf, NAMI Executive Director Matt Stehl and others on Thursday to how to improve the quality of life for people affected by life-changing mental illnesses.

Markell has said previously that the state needs to do more to diagnose and treat those with mental health issues, particularly children.

In his State of the State speech last week, Markell proposed increasing the number of trained mental health personnel in Delaware's middle schools by tenfold.
