SALISBURY, Md. - William Carl Smith, 89, died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in Shad Point he was the son of the late Carl Mansfield Smith and Eliza Brumley Smith. He was the former owner of the Shad Point Marine Railway at Shad Point. He was the former owner of Norgetown Cleaners in Salisbury. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the Atlantic Theater "D-Day" operation. He was a lifetime member of the Elks BPOE 817, the Bethesda United Methodist Church and the Bethesda United Methodist Men's Club. In addition he was a charter member of the Mollie's Point Yacht Club which later became Wicomico Yacht and Country Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine Leonard Smith; son, Carl Irving Smith and his wife, Bonnie of Salisbury; grandchildren, Michael William Pryor, Matthew Douglas Pryor, Tamara Leigh Tyler, Angela Nichole Rickards and Matthew James Hearn; great grandchildren, Ashley Tyler, Megan Rickards, Macy Rickards, Hunter Pryor, Stevie Parks, Andrew Rickards, Zachary Hearn, Gavin Hearn and Evan Tyler and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Smith Pryor, six sisters and one brother.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 2 PM at Holloway Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Shad Point Cemetery.
