ALLEN, Md - A few months ago we brought you the story of Rebekah Fleming, a young girl with spina bifida who was rallying community support to raise money for a special van.
Her dad used to carry her to the car whenever she needed to go somewhere, but no more. We're happy to say that Bekah's family got a new ride for her on Saturday.
The van has automatic doors and a wheelchair ramp, and special locks to hold her in place while on the road.
"It's so much easier," said Rebekah Fleming. "All we have to do is wheel me right in, lock me into the an easy lock. Put the seat belt on, and I'm ready to go."
She says is extremely thankful for the community's help, calling the support "amazing."
Their family has a few more fund raisers planned this spring to help with home remodeling. They are trying to make their home more accessible for Rebekah.
"Bekah's Birthday Bash" will be Feb. 8, at Mitchell's Martial Arts. There are also fundraising breakfasts planned for March at Uno's and Applebee's in April.
