Md. Man Facing Trial For Death Of NC Teen

Posted: Updated:

BALTIMORE (AP) - The trial of a 28-year-old Baltimore man accused in the death of a North Carolina teen is getting underway in Baltimore.

Michael Maurice Johnson has pleaded not guilty in the 2010 death of his ex-girlfriend's 16-year-old sister, Phylicia Barnes. The teenager from Monroe, N.C., disappeared while visiting Baltimore for the 2010 Christmas holidays and her body was found in the Susquehanna River months later. Johnson was indicted in April and has been charged with first-degree murder.

Prosecutors say Johnson killed Barnes in her sister's apartment and then used a 35-gallon tub to move the body.

Evidence in the case is expected to include a video that shows the defendant, victims and others engaged in sexual conduct.
