Dover Man Charged With Raping Woman After Party

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - A Dover man is accused of raping a woman during a hotel party. Dover Police say that several people had rented rooms at the Dover Hotel, on S. DuPont Highway, for a small party on Saturday.

According to Police, sometime during the early hours of Sunday, a 30-year-old woman went to sleep in her room, while there were still several other party-goers in the other room. At around 6:00 AM, the 30-year-old victim reportedly woke up to find 26-year-old John Courtney having sex with her.

An investigation shows that as the victim realized what was going on, she kicked Courtney off, and ran into the bathroom, when she started screaming, the suspect reportedly fled on foot.

Police found Courtney, a short distance from the hotel, and arrested him. He was charged with 2nd degree rape, and held at JVCC on $25,000 bond.
