Beachcombers Corvette Club Introduces Scholarship Fund

Posted: Updated:

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - For the first time, the Beachcombers Corvette Club of Southern Delaware is gearing up to give back, with two $500 scholarships up for grabs for area youth.

"We're starting small and maybe next year we can do $1000," said former President, Connie Magee.

Magee is all too familiar with tuition costs, having put three kids through college.

"We had one in Salisbury State, we had one in Delaware Tech., and one at University of Delaware. There aren't a lot of scholarships out there for certain people and it was hard," she said.

For that reason, Magee says she pushed for this scholarship fund. Thanks to a sizzling summer Car Show in August, they're now able to do more. Much like the hot rods on display, the student must also stand out.

"Citizenship and community involvement is important," said Miriam Targonski, the Scholarship Chair.

Full-time high school students juggling part time jobs is a plus, and the key to winning, is in your writing.

"If a student has a story we might be able to see some things in their essay that will tough those people on our committee, to make the recommendation to be to be well-deserving of that scholarship," said Targonski.

There's no barring on which college the student attends, or field of study. The deadline is March 15th. For more information, click on the DEF logo on our homepage.
