Delaware Man Charged With 6th DUI

Posted: Updated:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) - A Delaware man has been charged with drunken driving for the sixth time.

State police say 39-year-old Jeffrey Barnes of Bear was pulled over early Friday morning in Rehoboth Beach. Police say a trooper observed an SUV driven by Barnes as it made an illegal U-turn, drove south in the northbound lanes of Coastal Highway and then crossed a concrete median into the southbound lanes. Police say Barnes tried to flee on foot after he stopped his car but was quickly arrested.

Police say a computer check revealed that he's been convicted of driving under the influence five times: in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2003 and 2006. He's been charged with felony DUI and a variety of traffic offenses.
