Beach Blanket Blood Drive Aims For 700 Donors This Year

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - If you're in general good health, and looking to help save lives right here on Delmarva, roll up your sleeves for the Blood Bank of Delmarva's 15th Annual Beach Blanket Blood Drive.

The two day drive is the largest on the Eastern Shore - organizers are expecting 700 donors to give blood this year. Last year, approximately 600 donated blood.

The need is great - we're told the winter months are typically a slower time for blood donations.

"We need 350 donors a day just to support the blood needs throughout Delmarva, because we supply blood to the 16 hospitals in Delmarva. So that's a lot of donors a day, so this time of year, it's typically a little slow, so this type of drive is something that is really important to bring out new folks and regular donors to help sustain that," Christine Serio of the Blood Bank said.

The drive is open from 9AM to 5PM on Wednesday at the convention center. To make an appointment, call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8 or visit www.delmarvablood.org.
