Sen. Cardin Talks Debt Ceiling

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS - We may have averted going over the fiscal cliff with taxes being addressed, but Washington continues to battle what is being called the second half of the fiscal cliff.

As Congress prepares for a new session, our nation's leaders are going to have to come to a consensus when it comes to spending cuts and the debt ceiling. WMDT caught up with Maryland Senator Ben Cardin who says he hopes Congress has learned something from the first half of negotiations.

"Let's do that again. Let's not wait the last minute. Let's get it done now," said Sen. Cardin. "Let's deal with the automatic across the board cuts in a way that's befitting the Congress with Democrats and Republicans working together."

If a deal isn't reached by late February, early March, the United States could default on its financial obligations.
