WICOMICO CO., Md. - A new year means new planning for schools and some security changes may be on the way.
The Wicomico County Board of Education held it's first public budget hearing to discuss upcoming projects. One of those projects may include changes in security. With the recent tragedy of Sandy Hook, school officials tell WMDT that the security issue is the number one concern amongst the county's parents.
"At this time we're not, however, looking seriously at just armed guards, but rather all different options and seeing what we can afford," said John Fredericksen, Wicomico Co. superintendent. "[We'll discuss] what's going to be effective and what's going to make sure our schools are a safe place for our children to learn."
Right now, Wicomico Co. secondary schools have armed sheriff resource officers, who occasionally work with elementary schools.
