Del. Lawmakers Eye Lobbyist Bill

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - State lawmakers are reintroducing a bill that would require Delaware lawmakers to wait at least one year after leaving office before becoming lobbyists.

The measure filed Tuesday is similar to "revolving door" bills introduced by chief sponsor John Kowalko in previous legislative sessions.

Kowalko withdrew a similar bill last legislative session after the former House speaker agreed to support a measure establishing a lobbying reform commission. The reform measure passed the House but died in the Senate.

Kowalko, a Newark Democrat, has said that banning former lawmakers from immediately transforming into lobbyists would be a small step in good government.
