CAMBRIDGE, Md. - It's that time again. "Meet The Money Givers" is back for the fourth year in a row, and with all new scholarship opportunities for students interested in higher learning.

Every Wednesday and Saturday, WMDT's Alyana Gomez introduces you to a local organization eager to help our youth succeed.

To kick off the three-month long segment, WMDT would like to introduce the Friends of Blackwater.

The Blackwater Wildlife National Refuge in Cambridge has over 29,000 acres of natural beauty. An opportune place for various outdoor activities, and quite the experience for an educational adventure.

"The kids get hands-on experience. They go out in the marsh, they do habitat studies, GPS orienteering and everything is provided by the Friends of Blackwater," said board member, Wolf Hehm.

For five years, they've been opening their doors to 4th and 6th graders in Dorchester County, with a passion for nature. For the second time, they're opening their wallets to college-goers living in all nine counties on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

"It's for students who are currently entering their third or fourth year of college or entering a grad program for environmental studies or environmental sciences," said Hehm.

There are three scholarships at $1,000, $2,000, and $3,000 each. Financial need and a 3.0 GPA is a must.

Jesica West of Dorchester County is last year's winner, who's now studying at McDaniel College.

This time around, that big check could be yours. The deadline for this scholarship is March 15th. For more information, head to our homepage and click on the DEF Logo.
