BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - A fugitive sex offender from Delaware was arrested Tuesday night in Florida after an 8 hour stand-off.

On Christmas Eve, 40-year-old Kenneth Wood failed to return to Sussex Community Corrections Center in Georgetown after an authorized pass.

On his journey south, police say Wood pulled off two armed robberies in Alabama and another at a convenience store in Taylor County, Florida, right outside of the Georgia border.  Investigators said that papers left behind in Taylor County led them to believe he would be coming to Merritt Island.

The Game Over Task Force, made up of a number of law enforcement agencies, was alerted to Wood's plans. When they located a car he'd stolen in the mobile home park, they began evacuations and set up a perimeter to keep him at bay. According to investigators, Wood tried to escape through the floor of the home during the standoff.

"Apparently he was able to, through some measure, able to get out through the floor of the trailer. As soon as he did we made our presence known and he decided it was probably in his best interest to go back into the trailer," said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

WFTV, our ABC affiliate in Central Florida tells WMDT that investigators said that Wood asked to talk to a family member, and a short time later he surrendered.

No word if, and when, Wood will be extradited back to Delaware.
