VA Beach Mayor: No Deal For Pro Team In Place

Posted: Updated:

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms says Comcast-Spectacor hasn't reached a deal with a pro sports team to relocate to the city.

Sessoms had hoped to have a deal in place this week in order to ask the state for money to help pay for the construction of an arena near the oceanfront. The General Assembly convenes on Wednesday.

In a statement released Tuesday, Sessoms says more progress needs to be made between Comcast-Spectacor and the unidentified team to give state lawmakers a firm proposal to consider. Without state assistance, city officials have said the arena project can't go forward.

The NBA's Sacramento Kings are the most likely target for relocation after failing to reach an agreement to build a new arena there.
