DelDOT Prepares New Year With New Projects

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - DelDOT is kicking off the new year with a new budget and new road projects.

Officials say they will begin reinforcing roadways that lead up to the Inlet River Bridge. Among other projects, they're also planning to expand Route 26 to better serve the East to West connections, which they say right now is a big problem.

"We're going to three-lane it," said Shailen Bhatt, Secretary of Transportation. "We're trying to eliminate the left turn back-ups, so if somebody wants to turn left into a business and because you only have one lane, it backs up traffic especially during the beach traffic."

This project has been years in the making. Del-DOT say it's an issue they looked at addressing back in the 70s.
