WICOMICO CO., Md. - Officials say they are celebrating one of its recent programs, saying 297 pounds of prescription drugs have been collected in Wicomico County since September 2012.

The Prescription Medication Disposal Program was launched on Aug. 30, 2012 and has been a big success. There are currently four disposal sites around the county. Those sites and times are at Wicomico County Sheriff's Office (M-F, 8:00-5:00); Fruitland Police (M-F, 8:00-4:00); Delmar Police (M-F, 8:00-5:00); and Salisbury Police (M-Su., 24 hours).

"We've collected hundreds of ponds of old medication and expired meds in the several months we've had in operation in Wicomico County," said Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis. "This is going to be an indefinite process. It will likely last from here on out."

For more information and to get involved in the effort to reduce prescription drug abuse, call the health department at 410-219-7544.
