Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton Seeks Re-Election

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton is running for re-election. As of this afternoon, he officially re-filed at the City Clerks office.

When Ireton first was elected, he had said he would only do one term but has since changed his tune. Back in 2009, Ireton vowed to increase police presence on the streets, clean up the Wicomico River and unify homeowners and renters. On Friday, he told WMDT what his plans are, if re-elected in 2013.

Ireton said "this time around we've got to do really a couple of things, we have to keep pushing those rime numbers down, we have to make sure that the downtown sees cranes and new development and parking lots on waterfront property turn to homes and businesses. One of the important things is for me to stick around and finish all of these things."

We've gotten word that local blogger Joe Albero is also planning to file to run for mayor. He is expected to do so next week. The deadline is January 15th.
