POCOMOKE CITY, Md. - Janice King, 72 of Pocomoke, died Friday, December 28, 2012 in Pocomoke City. Born September 20, 1940, in London, England she was a daughter of the late Rabbi Andrew Ross-Smith and the late Violet Browse Ross-Smith. She was the nurse at Cedar Chapel School for several years, working with special needs children acclimating them into mainstream society. Janice had also served as a registered nurse for many years in the emergency rooms at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and McCready Memorial Hospital. She also worked in the hotel/ motel management field, managing at Twin Towers, the Upper Deck, the Snow Hill Inn, the Nelsonia restaurant and was a previous co owner of the Schnitzel House in Ocean City. She was also a veterinarian and was called "Doc" by many eastern shore farmers for the care she provided to their farm animals.
She is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Ralph Edward King, Sr. of Pocomoke City, one daughter Dawn Wheeler of Virginia Beach, one son, Adrian James Wheeler of Kerrville, TX, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and seven brothers and sisters, Aurea, Laura, Grahme, Ean, Alistar, Allison and Selma Ross-Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Violet and one brother, Gordon.
A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Barbara A. Bassuener, will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Pocomoke City. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Pocomoke Vol. Fire Dept., 1410 Market Street, Pocomoke City, MD, 21851.
