Democrat Lawmaker Eyes Gun Legislation In Delaware

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - A Democratic state lawmaker is calling for a crackdown on gun ownership in Delaware.
Sen. Robert Marshall of Wilmington says Delaware should ban the sale of semi-automatic military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines.
He also wants to give local governments the authority to impose gun licensing laws.
With the General Assembly reconvening next week, Marshall said Friday that he will introduce legislation regarding gun licensure, bans on assault-type weapons and high-capacity magazines, and gun buyback programs.
Marshall says gun violence is seen almost daily in Wilmington but that lawmakers from other parts of the state have had a hard time relating to it. He believes the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., last month may have created a new sense of urgency in dealing with the problem of gun violence.
