NEWPORT, Del. - It appears Fisker Automotive's future in Delaware is looking extremely doubtful.
After a number of setbacks and challenges, the company reports they are now looking for a financial partner. The First State invested $21.5 million for the hybrid electric car maker to set up shop in the old General Motors plant in Newport. Now, officials say Fisker does intend to continue with their plans in Delaware, but if the company folds, the State of Delaware apparently has guidelines in their contract to recover that money, but it will not be easy.
"Now there will be a line, because Fisker had also received dollars from the Department of Energy, and from what I understand, a bank in California as well. So we would actually have to get it on a cue, and hope to receive our money in that fashion," Director of Delaware State University's Center for Economic Development Dr. Michael Casson said.
WMDT reached out to the Governor's office who say they have not totally given up on Fisker and will continue to keep an eye on the situation and evaluate their options.
