SALISBURY, Md. - Daniel "Dan" Herman Dolch, 97, a resident of The Village at Harbor Pointe in Salisbury, Maryland, formerly of Onancock, Virginia and Teaneck, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012. Born in New York City on July 30, 1915, he was the son of the late Herman Ferdinand Dolch and Karoline Ficke Dolch. He moved to Teaneck, New Jersey with his family in 1926 and lived there until 1980. He proudly served his country during WWII, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant as a Photo Laboratory Chief and Senior Camera Technician in the US Army/Air Force. Upon returning home, Mr. Dolch resumed his career with the Teaneck Fire Department to which he was appointed on April 15, 1941. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1958, Captain in 1962, and became Deputy Chief in 1969, a position he held until his retirement to Onancock, Virginia in 1980. Mr. Dolch was a charter member of the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corp and the Civilian Defense Radiological Officer for the Township of Teaneck. He was a member of Teaneck Presbyterian Church where he was ordained as an elder and served on the Board of Trustees and the Board of Stewards. Daniel sang with the choirs of Teaneck Presbyterian Church, Market Street United Methodist Church in Onancock and the Madrigal Singers of the Eastern Shore. He was an avid gardener and a passionate collector of classical music. He was interested in politics, an avid fan of the NY Yankees and the NY Giants, and a lifelong student of religion and science.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 55 years, Viola Grell Dolch, and his brother, Frederick Dolch. He is survived by his three sons: Dr. Gary Daniel Dolch and his wife Peggie, Ronald Grell Dolch and his wife Sally, and Jonathan Harry Dolch and Stephanie Depolo; six grandsons, Terence Dolch and his wife Shannon, Andrew Dolch, Timothy Dolch and his wife Marjorie, Kenneth Dolch and his wife Kara, Kevin Dolch, and William Dolch; two great-grandsons, Cort Dolch and Samuel Dolch; a nephew, Frederick Dolch and a niece, Elaine Dolch Pacholek.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Allen Asbury United Methodist Church, Collins Wharf Road, Allen, MD. Rev. Dr. Sally Dolch will be officiating.
