WMDT 47 NEWS - Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) weighs in on the fiscal cliff bill passed last night by the Senate.
"The legislation endorsed by the President and passed out of the Senate increases revenue by $40 for every $1 in spending cuts and continues corporate cronyism by providing billions in tax breaks to special interests," said Rep. Harris in a statement to WMDT.
"I oppose the legislation as written. I support a balanced approach that controls spending and increases revenue. This bill is business as usual in Washington and does nothing to deal with the real fiscal cliff, our 16.4 trillion dollar deficit.
"The crony capitalist tax loopholes include a who's who of special interests: $12.1 billion for wind energy production; $248 million for Hollywood productions; $222 million for Puerto Rican rum; $78 million for race track facilities; and $62 million for corporate interests Samoa."
A source close to the fiscal cliff negotiations says that the House is meeting later tonight. As of now, House members will either amend the bill back to the Senate or will vote to go to a conference committee.
