
GEORGETOWN, Del. - Alice D. Bennett, 80, of Georgetown passed away on December 29, 2012 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE. Born on June 2, 1932 near Elkton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Elmer Dean, Sr. and Edna T. Green Dean. She retired after 25 ½ years of service from the Stockley Center in Georgetown. She was a wonderful woman who loved her family. She loved spoiling children, and was the matriarch of the family. She loved sewing, "word find" puzzles, and feeding the birds, especially her favorite hummingbirds. She loved people, was always happy, and loved to be around people. She was helpful in any way she could.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Gordy, who passed in 1982. She also was preceded by five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her siblings: Rosalie Hignutt, of Georgetown; Barbara Hooper, of Hebron, MD; Irene Venable, and husband David, of Greenwood; Charles Elmer Dean, Jr., and wife Rosemary, of Seaford; Roland Dean, Sr. and his wife Dorothy, of Bridgeville; and Raymond Dean, and wife Judy, of Farmington, DE. She is also survived by an "adopted" daughter, best friend, and constant companion, Doris Veasey, and her husband, Ralph, of Georgetown. Alice also leaves her "adopted" grandchildren: Scott Veasey; Mark Veasey; Johanna Hastings; and Kelly Cohee, along with six "adopted" great-grandchildren and a host of other friends and extended family around the area. A viewing and calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening, January 2, 2013 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at Watson Funeral Home; 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE.
On Thursday, Jan. 3, a funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon, and
friends may call one hour prior for visitation and viewing also. Pastor Steve Uhthoff of the Georgetown
Wesleyan Church will officiate. Interment
follows at the St. Johnstown Cemetery in Greenwood. Flowers are welcomed, or contributions to
the American Legion Post 8 Ambulance Service; 406 N. Front Street, Georgetown,
