SALISBURY, Md. - Arthur Whitney Usher, 88, of Salisbury passed away at home the evening of Dec. 25, 2012. He was born on Dec. 16, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey. He was the youngest of eight children born to William A. and Nettie Kruysman Usher. He was an Army veteran of WW II, serving his country from 1943-1947, in the Campaigns of central Europe, the Rhineland and northern France. He was awarded several medals of commendation for his service, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion. Arthur was a master mechanic who retired as service manager of the former Syracuse Truck Sales Inc. Prior to relocating in Salisbury, he was the resident manager of an upstate New York apartment complex. He enjoyed carpentry and golfing. Having grown up in the harness racing industry, he had a lifelong love of horses and enjoyed his family's equestrian pursuits.
Loving memories will be cherished by his wife of 61 years, Olympia Ukrainec Usher, two daughters and a son: Nanette (Richard) Bird, Patricia Usher, Arthur (Wendy) Usher Jr. He was the proud grandfather of Shawna Bird Holland and Kathryn Bird, and great-grandfather of Quint and Samantha Holland. He's also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 from 4 to 6 PM. Arthur was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church, where a mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am Monday, Dec. 31, 2012. Burial will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
