MD Plans To Play Sex Tape At Slain Teen Trial

Posted: Updated:

BALTIMORE (AP) - Prosecutors have moved to play a sexually explicit videotape that defense lawyers say depicts a slain teen, the man accused of killing her and two others.

The motion asked that the courtroom be closed when the video is played at the trial next month of 28-year-old Michael Maurice Johnson. He is charged with first-degree murder in the 2010 asphyxiation death of Phylicia Barnes in Baltimore. The 16-year-old was from Monroe, N.C.

The prosecutors' motion was first reported by The Baltimore Sun.

Johnson's attorney, Russell Neverdon, said Friday that the state's motion caught the defense team off guard. Neverdon said the video was found on the phone of Barnes' 29-year-old sister. It shows them, Johnson and Johnson's younger brother engaged in "promiscuous frolicking.

Johnson's trial is set for Jan. 22.
