Delmarva Residents Pay Tribute To Sandy Hook Elementary Victims

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del. - It was an emotional night, as Eastern Shore residents paid tribute to the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary with a special candlelight vigil.

On Sunday night candles were lit as locals came together to remember the tragic events that occurred on the morning of December 14th.  Officials say this candlelight vigil lets the victims know that even here on the Eastern Shore, people still care.

"There's a feeling of a need for this feeling to heal, and the healing process is throughout our nation and we all have sympathy. We all send our compassion's to the victims," said Lewes Mayor Jim Ford III.

And in the midst of the holidays the vigil held even more meaning for those who came out.

"We all have to watch our families and, you know, love them everyday not just Christmas, not just Easter, everyday you have to love your families and care about your neighbors," said local resident Frank Shade.

The 26 candles used at vigil memorialized the individuals that lost their lives in the school shooting. Each candle was labeled with a name and photo.
