TOWNSEND, Del. - J. Mervyn Townsend, 79, of Salisbury died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at his home in Salisbury. Born on December 11, 1933 he was the son of the late, James E. Townsend and Katheryn Culver Townsend. Mr. Townsend retired from Holt Paper and Chemical Company and previously had worked for Dillard Paper Company. He loved bowling with the Senior Bowlers of Pocomoke, playing pool on Red Men Pool League and at the Eagles, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He coached Fruitland Little League and exercised regularly at PRMC Cardiac Rehab. His memberships included Union United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Improved Order of Red Men.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce C. Townsend; sister, Judith T. Wessells and her husband, Donald of Temperanceville, VA; brother, Gary Paul Townsend and his wife, Kathy of Severn, MD; aunt, Lois Ann Bradley and her husband, Donald of Salisbury. Also, surviving him are nieces and nephews, Robert L. Marvel, Jr. and his wife, Connie of Salisbury, Debbie Marvel and her companion, Gorman Parker of Salisbury, Kurt Townsend of Severn, MD, Amy O'Toole and her husband, Gary, Kori Townsend Sabur all of Severn, MD, Michelle Bourbeau and her husband, Peter of Bloxom, VA, Donald Wessells, Jr. of Portsmouth, VA, Kevin Culver and his wife, Suzan of Owensboro, KY, Steve Culver and his wife, Judann of Trappe, MD and several great nieces and great nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 11:00 am at Holloway Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Tom Blakelock will officiate. Interment will be at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to Union United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, in care of Carroll H. Hitch, 3792 St. Lukes Road, Salisbury, MD 21804. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, PA, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.
