Moment Of Silence Honors Conn. Shooting Victims

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Bob McDonnell is calling for a reduced focus on violence and more understanding among all people in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting.
That was the governor's message Friday morning to those gathered at the Capitol Square Bell Tower to mark a moment of silence for the victims of last week's mass shooting. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports ( ) that after McDonnell's remarks, the bell tolled 26 times in honor of each of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.
McDonnell had issued a proclamation calling for a statewide moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. Friday, calling the move a small token of support and solidarity for those grieving in Connecticut.
