Lottery: More Than Quarter Of Raffle Tickets Sold

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Lottery says more than a quarter of the 440,000 tickets for its annual New Year's Millionaire Raffle have been sold.

As of Thursday afternoon, fewer than 320,000 tickets remained for the New Year's Day drawing. Historically, a large percentage of the tickets for the drawing are sold in the last few days.

This year, the Lottery has increased the number of tickets and the prizes. There were three $1 million winners among the 330,000 tickets sold a year ago. There will be four $1 million winners this year. Also, there will be four $50,000 prizes instead of six $25,000 prizes this year, and the number of $500 prizes has been increased from 300 to 400.

Tickets cost $20.
