WICOMICO CO., Md. - In an attempt to ease minds Thursday afternoon, both school and law enforcement officials in Wicomico County gathered to assure parents and students that they are working together to keep our young people safe. After last week's events in Connecticut and internet jabber of the "Mayan Apocalypse" rumors of security threats spread like wild fire throughout the county.
Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis said "we are doing everything we can in a collaborative effort to ensure our students are safe and that includes an increased presence of police officers, to make sure our schools are as safe and secure as they could possibly be and I think we've done that."
Officials say they have investigated every threat reported and so far have found no safety concerns. We're told if there is every any type of potential threat to students, parents will immediately be notified.
