MD Delegate Charged In Boat Collision

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A Maryland state delegate is facing charges that he operated a powerboat while drunk over the summer.

Maryland Natural Resource police on Thursday announced multiple charges against Don Dwyer, a Republican state delegate from Anne Arundel County. Dwyer has admitted that he was under the influence of alcohol when his boat collided with another vessel on the Magothy River in August.

Several people were injured, including a young girl.

An aide to Dwyer said the delegate would release a statement on Friday.

The operator of the other boat was also charged with a so-called Rules of the Road violation, accused of failing to slow down or take other steps to avoid the collision.

Howard County prosecutors helped with the investigation to avoid any perceived conflict of interest.
