Del. Gets Conditional Health Partnership Approval

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - State and federal officials say Delaware is among three states to get conditional approval for a State Partnership Health Insurance Exchange.

U. S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Thursday announced that Delaware, Minnesota and Rhode Island were conditionally approved to operate a State-based Exchange. It is an option provided to states that want to manage part of the exchange, taking advantage of the federal infrastructure while maintaining control of key decisions.

Delaware officials expect the state to serve about 35,000 people through the exchange.  Delaware will begin enrolling clients in its health insurance exchange in October for coverage effective on Jan. 1, 2014.
