SALISBURY, Md. - The debate over the right to bare arms is heating up and at a the Maryland Eastern Shore Delegation Forum today, lawmakers voiced varied opinions on the second amendment.
A number of legislators were in favor of keeping it, but addressing the types of weapons protected, while others, like Representative Mike McDermott, felt passionate about fully protecting the rights of the public.
"If people are empowered through the second amendment, in states where they are empowered, and states where people are trusted, they have less violent crime," said McDermott. "Their homicide rates are lower."
The legislature is set to discuss other issues, including, Wind Energy, the death penalty, mass transit and the state debt.
