PRMC Receives AABB Accreditation

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A local hospital is continuing a tradition that has been happening since 1960. Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury has once again been accredited by American Association of Blood Banks for transfusion activities and services. They have been accredited every year since 1960.

In order to get the accreditation the hospital has to pass a bi-annual invasive on-site assessment.

As of Friday, Peninsula Regional transfused 8,105 units of blood products to 4,216 patients in 2012.

The AABB is dedicated to the advancement of science and the practice of transfusion medicine and related biological therapies, along with developing and delivering standards, accreditation and education programs and services to optimize patient and donor care and safety.
