NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) - A southern California mall crowded with holiday shoppers was locked down this afternoon after a man fired about 50 shots in the mall's parking lot.

A police spokeswoman says Marcos Gurrola was taken into custody by bicycle officers patrolling the open-air Fashion Island mall.

Police say the suspect fired into the air and onto the ground near a Macy's department store and that no one was injured.
