Sen. Carper Named Next Homeland Security Chairman

WMDT 47 NEWS - Senator Tom Carper is set to become the next Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.      

He is scheduled to take over for Senator Joe Lieberman once Congress comes back in session come January. 

Carper previously served as chairman of the panel's subcommittee for Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services and International Security.

The Senator released a statement and said, "Our nation has faced some significant challenged in the decade since this committee was reorganized to encompass both Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and I know there are numerous challenges that still lie ahead."
