Local School Districts React To Conn. Shooting

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS - Just hours after the shooting on Friday, Queen Anne's County school district got a call just before 1 p.m. urging officials to lock down the schools, in which they did immediately. Maryland State Police responded, and scanned each school, but nothing came up. They're now investigating this serious incident, hoping to identify the caller.

Other schools are responding as well. WMDT reached out to a number of school districts in the Delmarva area. We do know Indian River schools have sent out a bulletin to all principals. Laurel's Superintendent says he plans to meet with all principals on Monday. Dorchester County Schools are discussing plans for tighter security. We talked to Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset County Schools and all have no plans for immediate action. Delmar Schools has no comment on the matter.

In Wicomico County, school officials have posted tips on how to speak with your child about this type of incident. You can find a link to that on our website, just click on 47 weblinks.
