DELMARVA — Representatives from around Delmarva are speaking out about Friday mornings tragic Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
Governor Jack Markell issued this statement in response to today's tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this unbelievable act of violence," said Governor Markell. "I echo the sentiments of President Obama – as a country, we have been through this too many times. We offer our compassion and condolences to the community of Newtown, Connecticut, as we all struggle to process what has happened today and how we move forward to a place of peace."
In concurrence with the President's order and as an expression of Delaware's sympathy for the people affected by the tragedy in Connecticut, Governor Markell has ordered the American and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities also be flown at half-staff until the end of the day on December 18.
Congressman John Carney (D-DE) today released the following statement on the tragic shooting in Connecticut:
"There is no way to explain the senseless act of violence perpetrated on young children and their teachers today in Connecticut. As a parent, I cannot imagine the pain the families of Newtown are feeling right now. Like Americans across the country, I am overwhelmed with sadness and grief. I offer my deepest condolences to the families affected by this horrific tragedy."
Governor Martin O'Malley today issued the following statement on the tragedy in Connecticut:
"The loss of innocent lives today in the shootings in Connecticut are tragic beyond words. Katie and I send our thoughts and prayers to those who lost loved ones in this heartbreaking tragedy. It's incomprehensible to even attempt to understand the pain these families are feeling today, especially the speechless pain of losing a child. We encourage everyone to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts and prayers."
Maryland Senator Ben Cardin issued the following the statement on today's tragic shooting in Newton, Connecticut.
"My prayers and thoughts of deep reflection are with all those shaken by the senseless and tragic events that took place in Newtown, Connecticut, today. Time and time again our national conscious has been rocked by tragic events such as this and time and time again we have rallied around those affected and emerged stronger. I am stricken with a sense of disbelief that such heinous attacks could be perpetrated against the most vulnerable and innocent Americans, especially in a place of learning."
Virginia's Governor Bob McDonnell released a statement early Friday.
