City Of Salisbury Election Season Starts

SALISBURY, Md. - The City of Salisbury is gearing up for its local elections.  Tuesday evening, the Elections Office and Salisbury Elections Board met to discus the schedule for the 2013 elections.  The mayoral, and two City Council positions will be voted on in the upcoming spring.

If you're interested in running, here qualifications for the positions:


Mayor
Resided  in the City of Salisbury  for at least one year immediately  preceding  the date of election;  reside in the boundaries  of their respective  District  on the date of filing for election  and will continue  to reside  therein  during  the term to which elected;  at least 21 years of age; and shall be qualified  registered  voters of the City of Salisbury.


Council  Members
Resided  in the City of Salisbury  for at least one year immediately  preceding  the date of election;  reside in the boundaries  of their respective  District  on the date of filing  for election  and must continue  to reside  therein  during the term to which  elected;  at least 21 years  of age; and shall be qualified  registered  voters of the City of Salisbury.


FILING  FOR ELECTED  OFFICE
To be considered  a candidate  for Mayor or Council member, a Certificate of Nomination  must be filed with the City Clerk on or before  4:30 p.m. on the eleventh  Tuesday prior to the date for the General  Election.  The filing deadline for the 2013 City Election  is 4:30 p.m., Tuesday,  January 15, 2013. 

The deadline to withdraw from the 2013 City Election  is 4:30 p.m., Friday,  January  25, 2013.  The filing fees are: Mayor - $25.00  and Council  members -$15.00.  Certificate of Nomination  forms,  along with other informational  material, are available  in the City Clerk's  Office.

NOTE:  Charter  Amendment  Resolution  No. 1889 was passed  by the City Council  on February  22, 2010 changing  the elections  from the spring to the fall.  For those Council  members  and the Mayor elected in 2013, terms will expire in November 2015 in accordance with Charter Resolution No. 2170 that was passed by the City Council on June 11, 2012 eliminating staggered elections.

Primary Election: February 26, 2013

General Election: April 2, 2013
