GOP Urges O'Malley To Repay Security Costs

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland House Republicans are urging Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley to reimburse the state for security detail costs for out-of-state for political events.

House Minority Leader Anthony O'Donnell and House Minority Whip Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio sent a letter on Tuesday to the governor's office. The say the Democratic Governors Association or the governor's campaign funds could pay the expense.

The Baltimore Sun reported this month that the state of Maryland spent $98,460 on 26 trips from January until Sept. 18. O'Malley was chairman of the DGA at the time.

Raquel Guillory, O'Malley's spokeswoman, says that was for all out-of-state travel, include state business. She also questioned if the GOP leadership ever asked former Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich to reimburse Maryland for $300,000 for travel on political and state business during his tenure.
