Virginia Man Sentenced In Grandparents' Deaths

Posted: Updated:

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A man who admitted killing his grandparents at the Virginia Beach home he shared with them has been sentenced to more than 31 years in prison.

Media outlets report 37-year-old Donta Jarma Brown pleaded guilty in Virginia Beach Circuit Court on Monday to two counts of second-degree murder.

Court records show police found the bodies of 80-year-old Eugene McNeely and his 84-year-old wife, Mary, in July 2011. A medical examiner determined they had been beaten and choked. Brown's DNA was found on a blue cord near the bodies and on Eugene McNeely's broken cane.

Brown also lived in the home.
