SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - The head of the Delaware National Guard is joining other state officials in welcoming a group from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to discuss the protection of critical infrastructure.

Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala will join Secretary Lewis Schiliro from the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, deputy environmental secretary David Small at Tuesday's conference at the Smyrna Readiness Center.

Delaware has participated since 2005 in a state partnership program aimed at engaging partner nations through military, sociopolitical and economic avenues.

Issues to be discussed Tuesday include protecting critical infrastructure and maritime assets, and public and private-sector energy partnerships.
