UPDATE: Worcester Co. Resident Challenges Delmarva

Posted: Updated:

WEST OCEAN CITY, Md. - It's been over a month since Super Storm Sandy hit the Eastern Shore and residents in Crisfield are still in dire need.

Now, the community really has come together over the past few weeks to lend a helping hand, but there is still so much work to be done.

"I know that there is a lot of other people out there that can help," said Christine Fortner.

Fortner is one of many volunteers giving up their time in the mission to rebuild Somerset County. But she knows there is still a lot of work to be done.  A painter by trade, her skill sets will come to good use and even though this painter has her own business and is working full-time, she's willing to go down to Crisfield and help rebuild homes on her own time.

"It's been something that I wanted to do, but I didn't have the means and I don't have enough stuff in my carport and in my shed to do it all myself."

With the holidays coming up, the need is that much greater.

"The FEMA attempt failed and I know they want to go back out and try again to get that assistance, but there's still Christmas. There's kids down there that are without a floor to even put a tree on."

Gathering supplies and collecting donations was the easy part.

"If we got it laying around in our garage and we don't need it and we're not using it, they could be using it and they're our neighbor."

But she's now left with the dilemma of transporting her resources to Crisfield.

If you'd like to help Christine in her volunteer efforts, she can be reached at 443-614-3104.

*UPDATE* - Christine informs us that she will have a truck at the Berlin Home Depot this Friday, starting at 12:00 p.m.

The truck will be taken down to Crisfield on Sunday and is looking for the following donations: household supplies, cleaning supplies and building materials (paints, plywood, etc.) as she attempts to help rebuild Crisfield.
